Student Councilors

In H.A.S.S. as a segment of their citizenship learning, room 12 students have been learning about the Australian electoral and voting process. Room 12 used the Australian voting process to campaign and elect our student councilors for Semester Two. Below are some pictures of the class creating their campaign speeches and posters before the big vote. After the election was completed, the votes were tallied. Congratulations to Tylah and Christian, who will be representing Room 12 in Semester Two Student Council meetings. The class knows you will represent us responsibly and respectfully, well done

Wattle Grove held NAIDOC week from the 27/07/2020 to the 31/07/2020. In this week Room 12 and their buddies in Pre Primary (room 9) read a traditional Indigenous story and created a character from the book.

The book the students read was "The Echidna and the Shade Tree" written by Mona Green and Pamela Lofts. The students created an echidna with wooden spikes with their buddies before reading some traditional Indigenous stories to them.

The class also participated in an incursion learning about water and its importance to Indigenous culture in Australia and the connection between Aboriginal people and the land.

Below are some pictures of the students participating in reading and making their echidnas.

'LEARNING AT HOME' SITE

In wake of the recent events, the Education Department has set up an online site called 'Learning at Home,' for those at home during these times. Resources are available across all Year Levels and many Learning Areas. Please click on the image below to be directed to the website.

Furthermore, I encourage all children to log onto Literacy Pro Library where you will find a number of books leveled to the individual. Keep up with the reading; as much as possible.

Typing club and Code.org will continue on with the progress students have already made with which the log in information will be in each student diary and the link is on this blog.

Finally, many room 12 students have been working on writing a Ballad styled poem for Anzac Day and have made an excellent start, this is a great item that students can be working on at home as their writing task.  Homework will continue to be updated on this blog.

Also please check in regularly with the WGPS blog for important information and some helpful links for educational sites.

Stay safe and I hope to see everyone back healthy as soon as it is possible.

Student Councillors

Welcome to our new Student Councillors!

Congratulations to our Student Councillors for Semester One, who, after performing a speech to their class have been elected to represent Room 12 at the student meetings with Miss Roberts. I know Deep and Aaliyah will represent Room 12 confidently and with care, sharing the thoughts and ideas from their class.

Great work to all students who took the time to make a speech, I am always impressed by the effort and confidence of those who are prepared to speak in front of their peers.

Welcome back to Room 12, ready for another fantastic year.

We've had an excellent first two weeks back and have welcomed some new faces to the classroom, Nash and Shania. The first weeks have been spent re-establishing standards and routines for the classroom, while revising and refining learning from year 4.

It's excellent to see most students taking up the challenge to complete their motivational work as the week has progressed, with some students even completing additional work on their mental mathematics skills.

It is great to see that all students have now completed their Literacy Pro test. They are now ready to start completing quizzes and building their words ready to gain their assembly certificates. I hope all students will participate in this throughout 2020.

Aussie Day: Friday, 14th February (this Friday) is Aussie Day at Wattle Grove. Children can come dressed in 'Aussie' style clothes. Please, no thongs, singlets, vests etc. Appropriate footwear and shirts are expected. A gold coin donation is encouraged with all money raised going towards the Bushfire Appeal.

On this blog there are some important links on the right hand side of the page for additional learning programs. The main programs are Literacy Pro, Typing Club, Code.org and practice information for NAPLAN, if we have additional resources as the year progresses I will add to this list. Log in information will be in the front page of the student diaries.
